Offshore Drilling Job, while we look for two gas reservoirs. we think we'll find them 4,500 meters down, or rather at around 4,500 metersfor the first
and between 6,000 and 6,200 metersfor the second. so we're drilling very deepand we're still not there yet. for one thing, the rock formations are very hardand very difficult to drill through. and since the formations are abrasive, the drilling equipmentwears out pretty fast. then too, the strata are not alignedsequentially one below the other. the topography is complex becauseof the way the andes were formed.
this can be also seenin the subsurface geological strata. in addition,the well walls are unstable and tend to collapse, because of these same rock mechanics and tectonic forcesin the region's subsurface. another problem has to do with theseismic data and their processing, since the data we acquireare not accurate enough. this means that we sometimessee enormous margins of error, as much as one kilometer horizontallyand 500 to 800 meters vertically.
we take samples that we can theninterpret and analyze in the laboratory to learn more about the typeof rock formation where we're drilling. we exchange a lot of informationwith geoscientists to find out exactly what they want usto do to meet the objectives. but to a certain extentwe're feeling our way forward, trying to be as responsive as possibleto adapt to the characteristicsof the subsurface where we're drilling. we have a deadline to meet. we have to find the reservoirby a specific date.
this kind of workoften involves a lot of action, which at timesreally gets the adrenaline pumping. given the findings from previous wells,we're very optimistic about what we're going to find here.
